Must I wear an N95 mask to prevent this coronavirus?
Academician Zhong Nanshan, leader of the high-level expert group of the National Health and Medical Commission of China, said that if the body develops symptoms such as fever and cough, it is necessary to wear a mask, but for ordinary people, it is not necessary to wear an N95 mask. Because these viruses do not exist alone, they often reside in droplets. Ordinary surgical disposable masks can still block most viruses, and wearing masks is still useful.
In other words, for the purpose of self-protection and reducing the risk of respiratory infections, wearing surgical masks and N95 type masks can be used. If the current medical equipment is in short supply, we hope that the N95 mask with a tter protection level will be left to the hospital staff.
If you are going to the general open-air public place and do not contact the patient, you can choose to wear a medical-surgical disposable mask without excessive protection; but if you will contact patients with suspected respiratory infections, you should wear N95 masks.
